University of South Carolina Notables

University of South Carolina - Gamecocks Football & Basketball
Join the loyal fans of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks football team as they charge the field at Williams-Brice Stadium, one of the finest facilities in college football. South Carolina annually ranks among the top 12 in the nation in home attendance and over the past five years, the Gamecocks sold out all of its home games prior to the season.
Constructed in 1934, Williams-Brice Stadium has a seating capacity of 80,250. The pride of USC and the largest arena in the state, the Colonial Center is home of University of South Carolina Gamecock men’s and women’s basketball, as well as world-class concerts, shows and major sports events. Opened as the 10th-largest on-campus basketball facility in the country, the state-of-the-art facility features a technologically advanced sound system and a four-sided video scoreboard.

University of South Carolina Medical School
University of South Carolina School of Medicine is dedicated to preparing students in the art and science of medicine and providing them with a background for further post-graduate training in a variety of fields of medicine. The four-year curriculum consists of basic science courses and clerkships in applied clinical medicine.
A distinguished core faculty of basic scientists and clinicians brings to SOM a variety of outstanding academic training and experience. This core faculty is complemented and enriched by a large number of community physicians who participate in both hospital clerkships and office preceptorships.

Exploring University of South Carolina
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Horseshoe is the original campus of the University of SC. A stroll along the Horseshoe offers a delightful view of early 19th century architecture. Benedict College - Benedict College was founded in 1870 on an 80-acre plantation in Columbia, South Carolina by the American Baptist Home Mission Society. This new school was established for the recently emancipated peo­ple of African descent. A branch of the NAACP was founded at Benedict in 1937.
